Frankie's avatar

Truly the coziest

Colleen (aka Doodles)'s avatar

Practical Magic - Witchy, '90s feminism, with a killer soundtrack (also one of the best movie kisses of all time?)

When Harry Met Sally - Nora. Ephron. Also the chemistry between the main couple is amazing. Also hysterical.

Balto - Watched it constantly as a kid still makes me laugh.

Princess Diaries - My middle school years!

Parent Trap - Again this was my childhood. In particular the soundtrack.

Jac S's avatar

Ahhh Practical Magic!! That was my first date ever 😂 such a good movie.

Colleen (aka Doodles)'s avatar

Forgot Pride & Prejudice (any version).

Frankie's avatar

It's Complicated is definitely one of mine!

Others include:

- Stepmom

- Crazy Stupid Love

- Chef

- The Parent Trap

- Selena

- Bring it On

Maddie's avatar

Crazy Stupid Love is such a good one!

Ruby S.'s avatar

Ooooooh omg so many good ones! Selena! Stepmom!!!!

Shana's avatar

I think I might be a bit older that some of you all because mine is A Fish Called Wanda, which I would have seen on VHS a few years after it came out, and I grew up watching old movies on late night PBS, like movies in B&W that are older than my mom or that she might have seen as a kid. I find many of them comforting, especially any that have Katherine Hepburn or Cary Grant, and if it has them both, all the better!

Heaven Jordan's avatar

Love just about any Cary Grant movie! Also Gregory Peck. Roman Holiday has to be one of my favorites.

Sus's avatar

Omg yes Charade and Bringing Up Baby are my 1 and 2

Shana's avatar

YES! They are great, but my favorite is probably The Philadelphia Story. So many good lines. But I feel like Cary Grant can make any line good.

Legally Blonde

Dirty Dancing

Becca Rea-Tucker's avatar

On my first date with Rhys we watched Arrival!! So now that’s one of mine too!

Whitney Anne Adams's avatar

That’s fantastic! Great memories you have associated with it too. It might be my biggest comfort film on this whole list.

Natalie Cutino's avatar

Arrival was so captivating. Love love love.

Ruby S.'s avatar

So many of these are just so good! Strictly ballroom! Love it!

Adria's avatar

Ahh!! another Strictly Ballroom lover. It truly is one of my favorite comfort movies. Hilarious, heartwarming, I swoon for the rooftop scene.

Whitney Anne Adams's avatar

It’s so good!! I worked on the stage version of Strictly Ballroom -- it was an absolute blast since I love the film so much!

Shana's avatar

Yes to the Indiana Jones trilogy! (Love how you explicitly left that last one one. I prefer to pretend it doesn’t exist.)

Kat Davis's avatar

Legally Blonde – Originally based on a book and ‘winter ovester’ was based on a real thing that happened to the author

Overboard – The new one with Anna Farris and Eugenio Derbez. Is it ridiculous, implausible, and kind of problematic? Yes. I still like it.

This is my favorite movie of all time!

Ashley's avatar

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory! The one with Gene Wilder! My parents would let me rent a movie whenever I had to go home sick in elementary school and I always chose that one! I love candy 😍

Donna Ancypa Holmes's avatar

My favorite comfort movie is The Paper with Michael Keaton and a really strong cast; it’s a fast paced workplace comedy/drama and is a balm when I miss my coworkers (I’m still WFH).

Mallory's avatar

My comfort movie is... believe it or not... Magic Mike XXL. I feel like it's just such a wholesome stripper movie...

Becca Rea-Tucker's avatar

I love this soooo much - it’s one of mine too! Specifically the second one 😂

Mallory's avatar

Ha! Yes, specifically the second for me too! I always tell people, no no, don't try to bother with the first, it takes itself too seriously with too much plot!

juno is another great one. soundtrack is spot on, and especially perfect for rainy days.

Jenna's avatar

Ten Inch Hero is one of my all time favorites but no one ever knows it!

Rachel S's avatar

a friend of mine showed it to me when we were in high school but other than that i've never met anyone who's heard of the movie!

Heaven Jordan's avatar

About Time ❤️ Very underrated but so powerful and comforting. Makes me cry every time but for all the right reasons.

Lauren's avatar
