I love community cookbooks. So much that I collect them - I’m on the lookout every time I go to a garage sale or antique mall. I love perusing the recipes of course. But even more, I love seeing the tangible evidence of communities coming together to get things done. There’s a long line of organizing that’s been done through these kind of books. People (mostly women) would pool their knowledge, skills, and expertise to help keep their social groups, churches, schools, and other community needs afloat. It’s a great way to fundraise.
Contributing to one has been a lifelong dream of mine. So I’m thrilled to tell you that The All-Options Community Cookbook is here, available for digital download with a minimum $30 donation directly to All-Options! In gratitude for your donation, you'll receive 50-ish community submitted recipes for a wide variety of things including breakfast, apps, snacks, breads, sides, soups, salads, mains, and dessert. This is truly a win/win situation.
This cookbook is a treasure trove - full of our own and our family recipes, like Aunt Dot's Banana Cake, Pizza Soup, Sunday Caesar Salad, Garlic Tomato Sauce Mussles, Microwave Lava Mug Cookie, Chococado Pie, and Cincinnati Chili. Plus contributions from some of our fave professionals including Rose Levy Beranbaum’s The Chocolate Domingo cake (Rose is the author of The Cake Bible, which is currently in it’s 54th printing!),
’s Mini Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Pies, ’ Whipped Pecorino Dip, ’s Condensed Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies, ’s Olive Oil Cake with Whipped Cream, ’s Cowboy Coffee Cake, and my Toasted Rice Krispie Treats! Here’s the full list:
Now: why is this so important? All-Options is a national organization who uses direct service and social change strategies to promote unconditional, judgment-free support for people in all of their decisions, feelings, and experiences with pregnancy, parenting, abortion, and adoption. For some perspective: there are over 3,000 fake clinics (crisis pregnancy centers) in the US. There is only one All-Options. But All-Options now faces the possibility of closing. After the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, they received an unprecedented influx of individual donations and institutional grants that has since waned. Under the new leadership of Interim Executive Director, Taja Lindley, All-Options is working hard to raise enough funds to stabilize as a nimble and financially resilient organization. And they need our help and support to raise funds to effectively and successfully maintain their programs and operations as long as they can.
A bit about those programs:
The All-Options Talkline offers free peer counseling to callers from anywhere in the US or Canada. Simply call 1-888-493-0092 for open-hearted support regarding abortion, adoption, infertility, parenting, and pregnancy loss. The All-Options Talkline is a place where all options, decisions, experiences, and feelings are welcomed and respected, at any point in your journey
The Faith Aloud clergy counseling line offers spiritual and religious support through abortion or pregnancy experiences. Trained clergy from diverse faith background are available at 1-888-717-5010.
Their Pregnancy Options Workshops support providers, advocates, and students in exploring their values, unpacking biases, and building skills for judgment-free counseling and all-options referrals.
The All-Options Pregnancy Resource Center provides free pregnancy tests, peer counseling, condoms, diapers, baby clothes, abortion funding, and referrals to all kinds of local resources in Bloomington, Indiana.
